The idea of shopping at a thrift store is not always a common thing to do for a lot of people. Some people feel like they are “above it” or just don’t like the idea of second hand items. But, in reality thrift stores can have some great gems. With the way the economy is currently going finding deals and saving money is essential and what better way to save then to thrift. In today’s post I will be giving you some tips on how to thrift and to come out with some great finds.
- PLAN IT OUT: Before you even step foot in the thrift store, figure out why you are going. Gather some ideas of exactly what your looking for even if you save some pictures to your phone of what you want. The key to thrifting is to know your style and what you like to wear. You can’t go in and not know what your want. Sometimes it is common to go on a random shopping trip but, most times you still have an idea or style of what you looking for.
2. MAKE ROOM: “Out with the old in with the new”, is the most popular saying when shopping. Its important to clear out and make room for what you’ll be bringing back home. So if you know you want 5 new pieces find a way to get rid/sale/give away 5 old pieces. An even exchange and won’t having you feeling bad about bringing in new things. This is a great way to balance out your shopping.
3.DRESS FOR THRIFTING: Wearing comfortable clothes and shoes while thrifting is always a must. It not only helps with the ease of trying on clothes but, the process of strolling through the store. Keeping your outfit as light as possible can prevent you from being weighted down and will allow you to be able to carry what you need and not be bugled down with the extra necessities of your own outfit and will give you the extra to shop as long as you want.
4. SET A GOAL: Set out a budget of how much you want to spend when thrifting. Sticking to a budget will help prevent impulse buying but will allow you to buy what you need. The best way to stop from impulse buying is to bring cash. That way you spend over what you have in cash.
5. DO YOUR RESEARCH: Go online and read the reviews of the hottest thrift stores in your area. This will save you so much time when thrifting because you’ll know what to expect from the location(s) you choose. I’ve realized that the best places to thrift are in the center city areas. Know what you looking for and find the place that will carry it.
6. ADD A FRIEND: Make your thrifting trip a nice outing for you and your friend(s) . When it comes to thrifting the more eyes the better. Your friend(s) typically know your style and can possibly spot out things you don’t see. So grab some friend(s) and lets get these deals.
7. WASH YOUR ITEMS: Upon returning from your long adventure of thrifting be sure to properly sanitize and wash your items before wearing them. Even more so now with the COVID-19 we want to be sure your practicing safety precautions and being a safe as possible.
